Problem Statement

A power plant management facility with 300 engineers use a bank of Sun Enterprise servers to store CAD drawings and mechanical X-ray images. UNIX workstations are used for some CAD work, Windows XP Pro workstations are used for CAD and Image processing. The Windows workstations are Active Directory members and used FTP to transfer files to/from the UNIX systems. The site obtained assistance to implement Samba on the Sun Servers. The Samba servers were implemented as Active Directory members. NIS was replaced with an integrated ADS/winbind-based single-sign-on solution.
The company had recently experienced the failure of a large SQL server that caused a systems outage lasting several days. A Red Hat Cluster Server was implemented to provide a fail-over redundant infrastructure to avoid future severe loss of productivity.
