|The company had hired a network administrator to move all back-end servers from Microsoft Windows server to Linux and Samba. Migration was running behind schedule.
||Designed LDAP directory to meet company needs. Designed a distributed file storage system with roaming profile support and with disconnected use (cached account) capability. Assisted with initial implementation and continue to provide third-level support on rare occasions, as needed.
Result: System is working well, budgeted cost reductions fully achieved.
|Each office had implemented their own Internet access facilities. Company was concerned about the spread of offensive materials, potential for introduction of harmful software, use of business systems for private use causing loss of time.
Designed an integrated perimeter security system, web-proxy caches for all branch offices, provided guidance so that a standard site server image could be deployed to all branch offices. All electronic mail was centralized and web browser use is now restricted to those who need it for their job functions.
Result: System is working to plan without further external support requirements. The new network manager has things well under control.
